Len Paddock

Len Paddock, the son of a cast-iron foundry fettler, was brought up in Walsall, West Midlands, near the heart of The Black Country.
Having served an apprenticeship from the age of sixteen as a motor vehicle mechanic, he became fully-qualified and by choice, self-employed at the age of twenty-one. After eventually running his own garage business for nine years, he decided to sell it in favour of taking up a more caring profession in 1981.
He trained as a Registered Mental Nurse in Wolverhampton before becoming both qualified Teacher and a Community Psychiatric Nurse. His love of writing was a major reason, amongst others, to take early retirement in 2004, having had several individual poems and an anthology of his poetry published recently.
The popularity of his poetry and stories may be partly due to the fact that he enjoys doing stand-up readings and draws on his life experiences for situations and characters.

“Making Plans” is Len Paddock’s first full-length novel, and has been warmly received by those who have read and reviewed it.

After their discharge from the army, following a 'friendly-fire' incident during the first Gulf War 'Desert Storm' coalition operation to liberate Kuwait from the forces of Saddam Hussein, James and Robert joined forces with their new friend and mentor from London, Sam Cohen. The information that Sam passed on to them put the world at their feet, and large wads of money into their bank accounts. All is well until one half of the duo's dark and secret past catches up with him - and takes over. Their lucrative, low-profile trading business is turned on its head as his unscrupulous ways back-fire on him. As if that was not enough to deal with, one man's unshakeable loyalty is dealt another blow as his friend's hidden agenda and darker personality traits begin to surface. With so much at stake on the home front, and the pressure of terrorist task-masters snapping at his heels, the wayward friend's alter-ego rises - and puts murder, once again on the menu. With his ability to quickly assess and apply himself to any changing situation, his army training, and just a little help from his prosthetic right leg, our disabled hero attempts to turn things around, but even he wasn't prepared for the outcome of this nightmare.
