Mary Sinton
I was born in 1947 the oldest of three children, I have a brother and sister, my father died when I was sixteen years old, so my mother had the task of bringing the three of us up on her own. After spending a year at college studying bookkeeping I got my first office job, I have always loved working with figures.
I married at the age of 24 and was blessed with my two sons, my eldest died in 1994 aged 21, I have also been blessed with 5 grandchildren to date.
Divorced in 1999 I have since met the most wonderful man, we married in 2006, 5 years after meeting on a blind date.
When I was in my teens I wrote some poetry, but I let no one read it.
I retired in May 2007 after spending 17 years working for a local bank.
We bought a Labradoodle pup, whom we have named Beanie, now 2 ½ years old, but very much still behaving like a pup, we just love our walks together.
Over the years I have tried several creative writing groups, but it was difficult fitting them in while working and also they tended to close through lack of interest.
Last November (2008) I went to another creative writing group and suddenly found that I was writing poetry for children, just having fun and loving it, I received a lot of encouragement from within the group and others who read some of what I had written.
Then I decided that I would like my work to be published, it may be my one and only book who knows, but I wished to try and fulfil my ambition, I found the UKUnpublished website and here we are, scary or what, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
My writing and concepts are simple and my hope is that children and adults will enjoy at least one of my poems.
