Michael Yarwood
Michael Yarwood was born in 1948 in Liverpool. He joined the British Army straight from school at the age of 15.
He has had various jobs since, but his heart was always been in writing and believes ‘The Pen Is Mightier than the Sword’.
He also studied the Holocaust from an early age and firmly believes that what happened to the Jewish and Gypsy communities of Europe, should never be forgotten during those horrific times of the Second World War.
Michael now lives in Devon with his wife Jean. He has two sons and a daughter, Peter, David, and Sarah.

The Novel 'Voices Of Yesterday' is the story of a group of Jews who take on the might of the German Waffen SS. Set in the turbulent times of the Jewish Ghetto 1942-43 against the backdrop of wanton cruelty and starvation. Nearly half a million Jews were crowded into a walled of section of the city of Warsaw, not much bigger than a square mile square to await deportation to the Death camps. The Jewish fighters, well organised but lacking in weapons stand alone in their fight against tyranny. They attack the Germans from underground bunkers and eventually from the sewers. Loosely based on factual characters and locations, the Jews held the Waffen SS at bay for nearly a month, this is their story.

Another year has dragged by, the German occupation since the failed 1943 Jewish Ghetto uprising in Warsaw was still as strong as ever. The Polish resistance alongside the Polish Home Army commanded by Bor Komorowski decided to launch a surprise attack on the German occupiers. On August 1st 1944 an Home Army of some 45,000 poles including civilians and resistance launched a planned attack on the Nazis to take back the Old Town District. This action resulted in the massacre of almost every living, man, woman and child in the most horrendous and brutal ways possible. Hitler wanted to chow the rest of Europe the consequences of making a stand against the Third Reich. The city of Warsaw was razed to the ground in retaliation. A novel of fiction loosely based on facts of betrayal, murder and in house fighting by all factions concerned forced Tomas Budzyn to lead his resistance unit away from the Home Army, to fight their own war, bringing their dark story out into the light.

The novel ‘We Are the Children of the Wall’ is Michael Yarwood’s third novel set in Warsaw, Poland during the Nazi occupation 1942-44. This is the true story based on young gang of food smugglers, who risked life and limb to go over or under the Jewish Ghetto wall to bring back essential food supplies to keep family and friends alive during the Nazi resettlement plans.
Among the Jewish victims caught smuggling, there were tens of Jewish children between the 5 and 6 years, whom the German killers shot in great numbers near the passages and at the Ghetto wall. Despite all of this, without paying attention to the victims, the smuggling never stopped for a moment. Several times captured smugglers were herded down to the central lock-up on Gesiowka Street, to wait until the Germans decided it was time to shoot them. Usually they were shot on the same day.
When the street was still slippery with blood that had been spilled, undeterred by the executions more young smugglers set out, as soon as the “candles” (lookouts) had signalled the way was clear, to carry on with the work.
