So you’ve spent 100’s of hours writing your manuscript, and now you’re looking at how you can get it published.
Your manuscript is probably your most prized possession, so you have got to make the right decision.
UKUnpublished could be the answer:
We have combined two existing publishing models, to provide a comprehensive, value for money service, without the rejection, time, effort and cost that can be associated with existing methods.
"Something shocking is happening in the world of publishing that means we could end up with very few books at all except the ghost-written memoirs of airhead footballers and models"
This seems like a very harsh assessment, but is quoted directly from an article by Cole Morton on 11th March 2007 in The Independent on Sunday. Click here to read the full article, or find out about Cole Morton on his website here.
I put this here, not as an attack on publishers or those Authors, but to illustrate the feeling of many commentators in the industry, and also many Authors who have enquired into publishing their books - including some who have published with UKUnpublished.
"A Raw Deal"
It is thought that 10% of Authors take home approximately 50% of all the royalties (taken from an article on The Independent website), which therefore leaves the majority to share out the rest, and those top 10% usually have a sales and marketing advantage even before publication.
The Guardian's Alison Flood, who on 26th October 2009 wrote, "I can't help but think, though, that safe in their positions with long-standing publishers and at the top of bestseller charts, these aren't the authors whom celebrity novelists are really affecting. It's the unpublished writers who are missing out on book deals because the money is being spent elsewhere, or the midlist authors who aren't getting the publicity or marketing spend because it's all going on the glamorous names, who'll really be hit." in her article on guardian.co.uk here.
